Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust has announced that its Chair, Admiral Sir Trevor
Soar KCB OBE DL, will step down in November 2026 after completing ten years in
post.

Since his appointment in 2016, Sir Trevor has guided the award-winning charity
through a decade of transformation. He has overseen major projects including the
completion of the Fitted Rigging House, steering the Trust to financial independence,
strengthening the Board of Trustees and the successful navigation of the challenges
of the Covid-19 pandemic. He also played a key role in appointing a new Chief
Executive and establishing a strong leadership team.

In recent years the Trust has marked important milestones and built its reputation as
a leader in the heritage sector. The 40th anniversary of the Dockyard’s closure
highlighted how far the charity has come and the year-long programme culminated in
the launch of the Trust’s first 10-year strategy. With this framework in place, strong
leadership and the support of a dedicated community of staff, volunteers and
partners, the Trust is well positioned to deliver on its ambition to be a world-leading
maritime heritage destination.

Sir Trevor said: “I have had the privilege of working with many incredible
organisations and individuals during my time as Chair and I have loved every minute
of it. I feel proud of what we have achieved together and with exciting opportunities
ahead, I know the Trust is well placed for the future.”

The recruitment of Sir Trevor’s successor will be led by GatenbySanderson and will
commence shortly
