Dover Castle

Dover Castle has stood on Kent’s iconic White Cliffs commanding the gateway to the realm for nine centuries. At its heart stands the magnificent Great tower, created by King Henry II. Step inside this uniquely vivid medieval palace, take a seat on the king’s throne, and meet characters from Henry II’s court.

On to the 20th Century and venture deep inside the Secret Wartime tunnels where you can witness ‘the miracle of Dunkirk’. A compelling visual tour guiding you through the tunnels where this incredible rescue operation was masterminded. The tunnels are fantastic to take shelter on a rainy day out too!

The Underground Hospital is also not to be missed, where you can follow more action with the gripping story of an injured fighter pilot being rushed through to emergency surgery. Pass through the authentically recreated rooms where you can see, hear and smell the original hospital equipment used during World War II…

There’s more than enough for a full day out at Dover. Discover the UK’s oldest surviving lighthouse built by the Romans, the Anglo-Saxon church, or the WWI Fire Command Post. On summer weekends be sure to see the gun firing drills, descend into the Medieval Tunnels or explore the Battlements Walk.
