St Augustine’s Abbey

Where Christianity was reborn in Southern England.

Originally constructed at the same time and to a similar size as nearby Canterbury Cathedral, founded shortly after AD597 by St Augustine. See the new virtual reality tour, made in partnership with students from the University of Kent, which allows visitors to experience the abbey as it was when it was in its prime.

The abbey is part of the Canterbury World Heritage Site, just a couple of minutes walk from the end of the high street.

Opening Times

The abbey is open daily April to October, and weekends in the winter. For up to date prices and opening times, please visit the English Heritage website.
