Canterbury’s Botanicals Tour-from Garden to Glass

Discover the Gardens at Canterbury Cathedral on a tour led by one of the senior gardening team. Learn how the gardens were used by the Benedictine monks who lived in the monastery here during the middle ages, growing their own food and even brewing their own beer on site, and hear about how the gardens are cared for by the gardening team today, always with an eye on sustainability. You will visit the Cathedral’s public gardens including the Herb Garden which was re-imagined by our gardeners in 2005 and planted with herbs featured in a 16th Century Herbal book. You will also enjoy special access to the Deanery Garden which is not usually open to the public.

Canterbury Cathedral recently teamed up with Canterbury’s Foundry Brewery to create a gin flavoured with herbs found in the Cathedral Herb Garden. You can follow the route the herbs took to the glass by a tour of the Foundry where Jon the brewer, distiller and Founder will explain the whole brewing and distilling process. It will be a very interactive experience with everyone able to ask questions, and the tour will include 3 tasters of Gin and tonic.

Join this special tour and trace the route from garden to glass!
