Heritage Open Days – Hidden Histories

Come and see archaeology in action as we continue our quest to find out more about the original Mote House in the park.

Saturday 10th September, 10am – 4pm

We’ll be digging a couple of small trenches to confirm the findings from the geophysical survey we did last year; and we’ll be continuing with more geophysical survey to try and identify the formal landscaped gardens that accompanied the house.

Wessex Archaeology will be on site with more fascinating artefacts to handle and there will be maps, images of the old house and survey results to look at too.

A Discovery Trail will help visitors explore the wider park landscape and uncover more fascinating facts about its history.

Sunday 11th September, 12pm – 5pm

We will be at the Maidstone Mela, which is taking place in the park from 12pm.

We’ll be cleaning and identifying any finds from the previous day’s excavations and will have the results of the geophysical survey to look at too, plus all the maps and images of the old house, along with the Wessex Archaeology team.

The Discovery Trail will also be available for visitors to follow.

Come and find out how YOU can get involved in exploring the origins of this important part of Maidstone’s history!
