Japanese Day – Yokoso!

A day of Japanese culture! Free drop-in activities include sake and tea tastings from Wagamama and a Samurai warrior to talk to.

Bookable workshops and activities throughout the day include:

Meet a Samurai Warrior – a Samurai warrior will be in the galleries all day for you to find out how these warriors lived and fought.

11.30 – 12.30 – dress in Japanese costume and arms and take your photo with the Samurai.

Costumed photo – £2 payable on the day.

Japanese Craft – craft activities for children aged 4 – 11 years. Become a Samurai warrior by making yourself a helmet, or create some origami pets to take home.

Sessions at 10.30, 11.30 and 13.00.

Manga Workshop – Inko returns! Following her previous sell-out event, this amazing manga artist leads another workshop, suitable for ages 8 – 16 years.

Early booking is advisable. All participants will receive a £10 voucher for Wagamama Maidstone.

So what is Manga? – everything you’ve always wanted to know about manga. What’s the difference between anime and manga? How did manga start? Why is it so popular in Japan, and all over the world? Manga artist Inko tells the story and demonstrates live manga drawing. Suitable for ages 12+.

The Teabowl: East and West – Ceramicist and author Bonnie Kemske provides a fascinating insight into the history and modern form of Japanese teabowls. Suitable for ages 16+.
