1st April to the 30th September at Bedgebury National Pinetum & Forest
Bedgebury is home to the National Conifer Collection and the tree collection is internationally known for the great diversity of species being utilised for research. One of the volunteer groups at Bedgebury is completely unique at the Forestry Commission, the Bedgebury Pinetum Florilegium Society. This group of artists records the diversity of trees at Bedgebury with botanically accurate artwork. For the first time ever, this group has produced over 100 pieces to go on display amongst the trees at Bedgebury. The result is an outdoor exhibition showcasing the tree collection in all its diversity and with spotlights on some of the threatened species that Bedgebury’s Tree Team conservation work aims to save from extinction. The outdoor exhibition is free to view in the National Pinetum from 1 April – 30 September.
In September 2019, to coincide with the anniversary of the passing of the Forestry Act, the Forestry Commission will release a book – British Forests. Published by Profile Editions, British Forests examines the Forestry Commission’s unique history, its research, and promotion of tree planting in cities and the countryside over the past century. The book features a gazetteer of Britain’s forests and beautiful illustrations by the Bedgebury Florilegium Society of trees from the National Pinetum at Bedgebury in Kent.
A FREE event with standard vehicle admission rates applicable.
