25th May to 27th May at Dover Castle
Embrace the atmosphere and action of the 1940s as Dover Castle’s celebrated WWII Weekend returns for another bank holiday spectacular.
This year, commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D Day landings with new activities and a brand new, theatrical arena show. Witness a tense, action-packed battle between the allied and German forces featuring striking pyrotechnics and real-life vintage army vehicles.
Then discover some of the tricks of espionage that were used in Dover in 1944 to deceive the German forces about plans for the D Day landings. Meet the soldiers at military encampments from both sides of the conflict and get up close to a life size replica spitfire.
Experience life on the Home Front and get a victory roll hairdo at a pop-up 1940s beauty parlour, or relive the blitz spirit with a warming brew from an original Naafi wagon. Those with a thirst can pick up something a little stronger from the ‘Resistance’ bar while the kids run off to play at hands on actives including the Sergeant’s infamous assault course. There will be live music courtesy of the Swingtime Sweethearts, and talk about fashion-on-rations from experts in all things vintage.
