The City of Rochester Society’s conservation award for 2017 has been presented to the Dean and Chapter of Rochester Cathedral.

The award – which takes the form of a triangular plaque – was presented to the Very Rev’d Dr Philip Hesketh, Dean of Rochester, by Society Chairman Pamela Gibbon.

The Society’s objectives include the promotion of public interest in, and care for, the beauty, history and character of Rochester. To this end the Society presents an annual conservation award to the person or organisation having, in the Society’s opinion, made the most significant contribution to conservation in Rochester, the project having been completed during the previous 12 months.

The award for 2017 reflects the excellence of the work carried out in the crypt, vestry and chapter library as part of the ‘Hidden Treasures; Fresh Expression’ project and, as part of this, the return of the Textus Roffensis – one of the most important documents in the English language – to a new permanent home in the Cathedral.
