Festive Fun for Primates

Keepers at Howletts Wild Animal Park, recently put a festive spin to their enrichment for the holiday season, in the form of Christmas stockings stuffed with tasty treats.

The brightly coloured stockings were hung in the lemur garden habitat and the primates, although cautious at first, soon set about tucking into the treats inside.

The treats proved so popular with the lemurs, that the team decided to give them to some of the Javan gibbons and the white naped mangabeys too.

Matt Ford, Head Primate Keeper at Howletts said: ‘Providing our animals with new activities and objects to interact with is an important part of the enrichment work that the keepers do with the animals across every section as it helps to stimulate and interest the animals we look after.’
