Our First Birthday Present

VisitEngland, the national body promoting England as a world class tourist destination, has just announced the winners of its 2017 ‘Attractions Accolades’

These prestigious awards recognise the quality of visitor experiences on offer at the Nation’s top attractions and museums and The Historic Dockyard Chatham has been awarded a GOLD standard!

The Historic Dockyard Chatham is the ONLY Kent attraction to have achieved the gold standard in 2018 and one of only 20 attractions across the country to receive the prestigious award; the team at Chatham is delighted to see all their hard work in providing a superb visitor experience recognised in this way!

The awards are given out to those attractions taking part in the Visitor Attraction Quality Scheme (VAQUAS), an independently assessed “mystery shop” review which we recently passed with flying colours.

VisitEngland Director Andrew Stokes said:

“These attractions offer a warm welcome, unique storytelling, high quality food and drink and unparalleled customer service and rightly deserve these accolades. They provide visitors with amazing experiences and create reasons to travel the length and breadth of the country, increasing the economic benefits of tourism.”

Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust’s Chief Executive, Bill Ferris said:

We are delighted with the news of the Visit England Gold award which is testament to the great quality standards that we strive to deliver here and bring to the local tourism economy.  This award recognises and showcases the quality of every aspect of a visit to The Historic Dockyard Chatham, from the website and telephone handling, pre-visit, to the quality of catering, attractions, play facilities and even the loos!  The assessors pay attention to encounters with staff and the team here at Chatham impressed without exception – this makes me incredibly proud of all that the team achieves!  Its only by ensuring excellence in everything we do that we have achieved the gold standard. Gaining Gold at the start of our 400th anniversary year couldn’t be a better way to commence the many festivities planned!”
