The Forestry Commission is inviting people to join the biggest ever survey of England’s forest wildlife. 

Bedgebury is home to Forestry England’s National Conifer Collection and the tree collection is internationally known for its beauty and the great diversity of species being utilised for research and conservation.

The Big Forest Find is taking place in the nation’s forests, as volunteers and visitors embark on a journey of discovery through England’s wooded landscapes. The project is part of the Forestry Commission centenary in 2019.

From birds and butterflies to insects and plant life on the forest floor, the information recorded will paint a better picture of England’s forest biodiversity today. These records will increase over time, helping the Forestry Commission to enhance its forests for wildlife for generations to come.

From seasoned naturalists to budding wildlife enthusiasts, Forestry England is encouraging people from all walks of life to take part.  As part of the project, Forestry England is inviting people to record forest wildlife through the seasons using the free app iNaturalist. Bedgebury National Pinetum is celebrating in May Half Term with family activities as well as small group walks to get everyone out exploring and starting to record. The programme of self-led activities, free drop in sessions with experts and pre-bookable walks and tours include leaders from the Kent Countryside Partnership, South East Rivers Trust and Forest Research.
