The Inaugural Large Herbivore Working Group Conference
The inaugural Large Herbivore Working Group conference left us inspired, energised and more ambitious than ever about the future of large herbivores across Britain’s landscapes! 🦬🫎🐴
A huge thank you to our partners at Kent Wildlife Trust and the incredible Bison Rangers who led delegates into the Blean, sharing the realities, lessons and extraordinary potential of our work with bison.
Thank you to The Wildlife Trusts for bringing this landmark conference to life, Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology, University of Kent for funding and hosting the event yesterday, Forestry England for its generous funding, to Rewilding Britain & The Lifescape Project for their consistent support and to all of our team at Wildwood Trust for pulling together to host our colleagues this week.
Following the conference, we launched a Bison Benefits document in partnership with Rewilding Britain.
The report explores how these behaviours influence biodiversity, habitat structure, soil function, nutrient cycling and ecological interactions — and how the effects can be seen in the Blean woodland.
