Faversham charity, Brogdale Collections, has announced a series of open days to allow visitors unprecedented access to its heritage orchards.
The first Heritage Orchard Days will be taking place over the August Bank Holiday Weekend and will include the opportunity to harvest a wonderful variety of heritage and rare apples; take part in a family fruit trail and juice tastings; enjoy a display of some of our 2200 varieties, and the chance to enjoy a beautiful self-guided walk through the orchards. Visitors can also bring a picnic and eat their lunch in Brogdale’s wildlife meadows.
Sara Smile, operations manager at Brogdale Collections, says: “We’re holding these days to enable visitors to enjoy a lovely day in our orchards including the first ever opportunity to harvest their own heritage fruit that would usually be available at our festivals. At a time when people are struggling to find safe and entertaining days out, these Heritage Orchard Days are the perfect option. To keep numbers low we are limiting ticket sales, so people need to grab their tickets online soon, they’ll sell fast!
“By taking part, people are also helping protect these unique orchards for years to come. Income from ticket sales will be used to fund the orchards’ maintenance and upkeep.”
The Heritage Orchard Days are taking place 29-30th August; 26-27th September and 17-18th October. Prices from £4.50 for children to £25 for a family ticket and includes your fruit to take home. Pre-booking only via Brogdale Collection’s website is essential www.brogdalecollections.org
