Wildwood ready for a frighteningly good October half term

Spirits run high as animals and keepers at the Kent wildlife park prepare for a week of fiendish fun for all the family this Halloween

From Saturday 23 October – Sunday 31 October, Kent’s wildest animal park, Wildwood, will play host to creepy crawlies and cursed corvids for a week of terror-ific Halloween half-term fun.

During the spookiest season of the year, families will be treated to a ghoulishly great day out exploring the spine-tingling ancient woodland and getting up close with more than 40 species of British wildlife, from bison and badgers to wolves and wildcats.

A highlight this Halloween half term will be the “Curse of the Blood-Stained Bird”, where visitors can learn all about the iconic Kent species, the Red-Billed Chough, which according to legend gained its colour from dipping its beak in the murdered Thomas Becket’s blood in Canterbury Cathedral.

And if that’s not enough to satisfy Corvid curiosity, visitors can join craft sessions to make their own flying choughs and ravens. This will be a chance to learn more about the raven, the largest of the corvids, which evoked superstition and fear in everyone from the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons to horror writer Edgar Allen Poe.

Visitors can also take lessons in potion-making or get stuck in with spooky touch tables. And for the seriously brave, Wildwood’s Natural Heritage Officer, Steve Kirk, will be running a “spider-tour of the park” followed by some creepy-crawling crafts.

Magical mini witches and wizards can put their carving skills to the test by creating a perfectly preened pumpkin and bringing it with them to the park, to be in with the chance of winning spooktacular prizes. There’ll also be a fangtastic fancy-dress competition with prizes to be won at the park on Sunday 31st October.

Wildwood’s howl-oween half term spooktacular will run from Saturday 23 October – Sunday 31st October and will raise funds for the British wildlife charity’s vital conservation work.
