Gold for The Historic Dockyard Chatham

Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust is pleased to announce that The Historic Dockyard Chatham has been awarded a prestigious Gold award from VisitEngland in the annual Attraction Accolades for the quality of its visitor experience.

VisitEngland, the national body promoting England as a world class tourist destination, designed the awards to celebrate excellence within the visitor attraction sector and to showcase those businesses in the VisitEngland Visitor Attraction Quality Scheme (VAQAS) that go the extra mile to provide an outstanding day out.

The Historic Dockyard Chatham scored 93% in the VAQAS assessment which took place earlier this year and is the only attraction in Kent to have received the Gold accolade. Fellow Kent attraction, Shepherd Neame Visitor Centre, received an accolade for “Hidden Gem.”

Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust’s Chief Executive, Richard Morsley said: “Along with our charitable objectives of “learning” and “preservation”, Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust’s philosophy is excellence in all that we do. As a visitor attraction and museum, we aim to provide an outstanding experience across all aspects of our business. This is the fourth time we have had the delight of receiving VisitEngland’s Gold award and it is testament to the fantastic team at The Historic Dockyard Chatham who are committed to delivering the highest standard of service to everyone that comes through our doors.”

Deirdre Wells, Chief Executive, Visit Kent, and Trustee, Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust said: “The Historic Dockyard Chatham is one of the jewels in Kent’s tourism crown.  This is not just because of the fantastic exhibitions and incredible maritime heritage but the wonderful and welcoming staff who do so much to provide an exceptional visitor experience.  It is no surprise that this world-class customer service has been recognised by VisitEngland. I would like to pay tribute to everyone at the Dockyard who work so hard, year round, to put a smile on our visitors’ faces”

Andrew Stokes, Director, VisitEngland said: “England’s attractions provide visitors with amazing experiences and these accolades recognise the outstanding customer service and quality on offer across the country. From Best Told Story interpretation to Hidden Gem and overall Gold, these accolades show that there is an attraction capable of capturing everyone’s imagination creating lasting memories and spreading the economic benefits from tourism.”
