Hall Place and Gardens

Hall Place is a Grade I listed country house built in 1537. Today it has flourished into a popular events venue, with a permanent visitor centre and cafe, as well as acres of gardens that are free to explore.

Opening Times

Access to the Historic House and exhibitions are by pre-booked guided tours.

Access to the Visitor Centre, Café, Stables Art Gallery and Gardens are free-of-charge all year round 9.30am – 5pm.

Separate charges apply for Jambs Owls Experience and London Butterfly Gardens.

Our gardens are open year round(except Christmas and New Year) at the following times:

April – Sept: 9am-9:30pm  (the Stone Arch Gate that takes you to the glasshouses and Visitor Centre Centre will close at 5:45pm.)

Oct – March: 9am-5pm        (The Stone Arch Gate that takes you to the Glasshouses and Visitor Centre will close at 4:15pm with the large Green East Gates that allow access and exit to the wider gardens closing to the public at our usual winter time of 5pm.)

Accessibility

The historic house is on two floors, with level or ramp access throughout. There is a lift for access from the ground to first floor.

The glasshouse where Jambs Owls are located is accessible to wheelchair users. There are a limited number of hard standing paths throughout the formal gardens and designated parking for disabled drivers which are located nearest the large stone gate to the site.

The approach to the house is via the Nursery and Visitor Centre, a distance of approximately 100 yards. Seating is available along the route, and two wheelchairs are available for use on site for those who find walking difficult.

We offer large print guides to our events and exhibitions where possible and assistance dogs are welcome throughout the house and gardens.

Parking: Please use the designated disabled parking bays. there are two locations one set for Hall Place and Gardens and one set for Miller and Carter Restaurant as shown on this Disability Parking Locations Map.

If you wish to use the manual wheelchairs they need to be booked in advance to make sure of availability. Please email us at hallplaceenquiries@bexley.gov.uk to check availability and make arrangements to collect. A refundable deposit of £15 will be taken in exchange for the wheelchair, this sum will be returned in the same manner on the return of the wheelchair. If paying by cash unfortunately we can only accept the correct money as no float is held
