Britain’s biggest and best-preserved Napoleonic Fort. Free to visit, with over 22 acres of outside space to explore. Over 300 years of history waiting for you to discover from 18th Century to the present day. Tunnel tours are available daily (pre-booking is essential). Family friendly events throughout the year.

We do accept dogs in all our outside areas and café, however not in our buildings or tunnel complex.

Accessibility
Fort Amherst welcomes all visitors, however as an Ancient Scheduled Monument we are limited to the adjustments that can be made to some of our steep slopes and uneven floors. Unfortunately, our tunnel tours are not currently accessible to wheelchairs and do include steep stairs which may not be suitable to those with limited mobility.
