The Big Cat Sanctuary raised over £87,000 at its annual ‘Dine for Cats: Tigers at Twilight’ gala, which will be used to support vital tiger care and global conservation efforts. Held last Thursday (4th June) at the historic Eastwell Manor estate in Kent. The evening held a special significance, marking decades of commitment to animal welfare through the work of The Big Cat Sanctuary.
In attendance were Sanctuary Managing Director Cam Whitnall and television presenter Tasha Ghouri, alongside Hertfordshire Zoo Managing Director Tyler Whitnall, Aaron Whitnall, and Lynn Whitnall. As well as family patriarch, Peter Samson, who famously purchased Broxbourne Zoo in April 1984 when it was widely labelled as ‘Britain’s worst zoo’. Through sheer dedication, he transformed it into Hertfordshire Zoo, one of the UK’s foremost zoological and conservation centres, before going on to acquire The Big Cat Sanctuary in 2000. Renowned conservationist and television presenter Giles Clark, who began his distinguished career under Peter’s guidance at Hertfordshire Zoo, was also present to show his support.
Guests arrived at Eastwell Manor’s grandly appointed ballroom for an evening that wove together celebration, conservation storytelling, and genuine emotional resonance. A lavish three-course dinner preceded a high-energy live auction, with bidders competing for an exceptional portfolio of prizes, among them an exclusive tiger safari experience in India, placing the sanctuary’s conservation mission at the very heart of the evening’s excitement.
Cam Whitnall, conservationist and Managing Director of The Big Cat Sanctuary said: “We are absolutely overwhelmed by the generosity of our supporters. Every pound raised helps us provide world-class care for our resident big cats and fuels our vital conservation work. These events are essential, not only for fundraising, but for sharing our passion for supporting these incredible species.”
